AVON — For the past 10 years, the Nail Gallery has been pampering customers at its salon in Old Avon Village. Now the owners are thanking their clientele by offering a special perk — a $5 off pedicure coupon.
“We’re sending out e-mails to our customers with the coupon,” said owner Michelle Bae. “We have lots of regular customers.”
It’s because of customers that they’re celebrating their 10th anniversary.
“Without your support, this wouldn’t have been possible,” the e-mail says. “To show our appreciation, we would like to offer you this coupon for your next visit.
Many other nail salons have opened in town during the past 10 years, bringing in competition, and the Nail Gallery is somewhat hidden with the village, Bae noted. But her regular clientele, plus word of mouth, are what’s keeping them going.
One such customer, Debbie Hutton of West Hartford, said she has been coming down Avon Mountain regularly every few weeks for most of those years, just for the special treatment she receives at the Nail Gallery.
“I started coming here with a friend. She moved to California, but I’m still coming,” Hutton said. “They offer good service here.”
One of the amenities offered at Nail Gallery, following a manicure and/or pedicure, is a free 10-minute massage given by Bae’s husband, John, whose strong hands take back, neck and head tension away using a combination of Swedish and Shiatsu techniques.
Another special treatment given is a free paraffin wax applied to the hands, which Bae said is not only good for dry skin but also, for one’s bones.
Also, pedicures include a four-step foot and leg massage that starts with a grainy sugar and lemon honey scrub, goes on to a hot cream massage, follows with a hot stone massage, and finishes with a cooling gel rub. Bae has two employees, Sunny and Hans, who administer this special treatment.
Bae, who was born in Korea, lived in Ridgefield before moving to the Valley to open her own business. She and her husband received received their training in Manhattan, and are certified in hairdressing and cosmetology in Connecticut. They live in Farmington and have one son, who has two master’s degrees and is an electrical engineer.
In addition to manicures and pedicures, other services offered include UV gel, nail tips, silk and linen wrapping, waxing, fill-ins, and acrylic nails.
As of Feb. 7, hours are changing to: Closed on Monday; Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; and Sunday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. No appointment is necessary.
